It's taken me a while to get this but some time last night I just decided to watch a youtube video on the most basic crotchet hat. I found one that was great, really comprehensive, really clear and I finally understood something about crochet that had been eluding me forever.
What has always driven me crazy with crotchet is knowing exactly what the heck stitch you're supposed to slip the needle into next. It always just seemed to random to me. I can't do random with yarn work. I need precise and definite, which with knitting has always been really easy for me. The building blocks and foundation stitches in knitting are very disciplined to me. Crochet has been a a whole other bag of tricks. But I've been determined because I love the way it looks. For me, all the effort that goes towards the end product is totally worth it especially if I actually know what I'm doing. It doesn't matter to me how long it takes. Wouldn't it be nice if life was like that? Maybe it is a little bit. Or rather it can be.
