Old Family Slides

My big brother when he was little

When I was a little girl in Brooklyn in our second apartment on a brownstone on Carlton Ave, I would occasionally spend time to sitting on the floor next to my parents wrought iron framed bed and look through a large bag of film slides my dad had taken which were kept under the bed.

I would sit on the floor and one by one pull the slides out of small yellow rectangular Kodak boxes and hold them up to the sunlight. I loved the color in them almost more than I did when I saw them in print. I liked recalling where we were in each photo and what we did or what was going on.

While I was at my dad's house today, he brought out just a few of these old slides he took years ago and turned up while he was searching for something completely different yesterday.

This is a slide of my brother. I just love it so much. I feel like it was a whole other world and we were so different then. And there's just something about a slide that captures a moment in time like no other. It's kind of surreal.
