"History is a lie agreed upon"

I'm home sick with what may or may not be strep throat. After a while though, what I hate most about being sick, besides just being sick is that I'm not getting anything done. I've been in bed most of the day and on the phone on and off all afternoon trying to get a single appointment to get my throat checked out by a doctor. I do not like doctors by the way. I will do anything not to have to go to one but I have to rule out the possibility of strep throat just to rest my conscience.

So after watching some fantasy filled fluff movie to get my mind off the pain of swallowing, my dad stopped by to check up on me, chat and show me some pictures. After having watched a movie earlier and updating my dads Netflix cue online, we talked briefly about "The Hurt Locker." Then I randomly asked him if he had ever seen "A Huey P. Newton Story" directed by Spike Lee and starring Roger Guenveur Smith. He had seen it and we talked about him for a bit, which lead to a Google search on Huey P. Newton.

Watching "A Huey P. Newton" a one man show performed by Guenveur Smith several years ago for the first time sparked several interests in me. It developed a really deep and sincere love in me for Bob Dylan's music because of the context in which they use "Ballad of a Thin Man", a dark, narrative over five minute long track in the performance set. Also, it just really made me like Huey P. Newton, and want to know more about him, particularly after learning that the Panthers breakfast program for poor inner city youth in Oakland at that time was considered by the FBI to be an enormous threat to security. LIKE, WHAT THE FUCK?

So today, after my dad left me at the Uptown Juice bar where I went to get some soup because I hadn't eaten all day, I came back home and looked up some books by Huey and looked him up on youtube because I had never seen any extensive footage on him before. Apparently, Guenveur Smith did a dead on brilliant interpretation of him. And this compilation that I found on youtube is pretty eye opening as well. I fucking love youtube. One thing always leads to another.
